Thread for ideas for the mainland swamp which Atteryv dwells in; will start.

Swamp gators: Large enough to bite a swamp deer in half, it is unclear if these creatures are more closely related to alligators or crocodiles; it is -very- clear that they are dangerous.

Giant Aloe: Like its cousin, Aloe Vera, speeds the healing of first and second degree burns; also contains a fairly powerful numbing agent and causes dizziness when ingested in any large amounts. Tall, fat stalks/blades, tough to chew (the most common method of making the pulp Atteryv uses to treat burns).

Swamp cows: Somewhat like buffalo, with long, loose fur the colors of the swamp. Herbivores, though they have a pair of long, sharp fangs for defense, in addition to sharp hooves and considerable bulk; about the same size as a gator, faster than they look; actually harder to hunt than swamp deer. Travel in herds of 4-8, resistant to all the poisons in the swamp (plant based only), though concentrations of said poisons will affect them.

Splitting leeches: Like leeches, will latch on to anything with blood and suck their fill; then they split into two. Gladly only infest a few ponds throughout the swamp, and cannot survive outside of very specific water with certain amounts of chemicals without a host.

Snap snakes: Large, boa-type snakes with absurdly powerful muscles; so named because they wrap around something, be it all of a biped or the leg of a swamp cow or dragon, and break the bone in several places with a loud snapping sound, partly from their muscles and partly from the breaking bone. Also have hinged jaws and teeth for tearing and chewing, unlike other snakes.

Scabroot: A more or less normal looking fern, with brown stalks and green offshoots. The root is tough and dry, and when chewed to a pulp an applied to a wound, dries into a 'scab' that stops any bleeding but will dissolve into blood flows while still damp. (Stops bleeding, little risk of cutting off blood flow)

Nimmis: A swamp bush that grows no more than four feet high, poisonous berries and roots, the green tips of the branches have immune-boosting properties; Atteryv uses for getting rid of worms, but will also help internal infections and diseases.

Whiptail Panther: Hardly justifiable as a feline; plates of armor cover its chest, back, and sides, no fur, no armor on underside; whiplike tails are barbed at the tip and secrete paralytic poison; hunt in packs of 3-5, prefer to eat their prey alive. Jaws strong enough to bite clean through the toughest of scales, though their claws are slightly duller.

Other Exiles: Atteryv wasn't the first exiled to the swamp, and his crime was by far the least serious. The colony occasionally gives rise to a hatchling who, shortly after hatching, tries to murder its clutchmates; these are sent to the swamp to die, as are those who commit serious crimes such as murder or rape.

Basilisks: These large, spiny lizards tend to occupy the best sunning rocks; they are covered in spikes and spit a peculiar acid that burns away only certain parts of a living creature, leaving extremely nutritious 'stone' behind.
